The Australian Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina Associations (AUBHA) prepared, printed and distributed many flyers about the recent floods in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Here we also include an electronic version of the document, which can be used in printed form or forwarded by email, to raise people’s awareness about the humanitarian tragedy in the Balkans.

We also hope that many more members of the community can contribute by donating a small amount of money, either personally at one of 28 associations or via Paypal or bank deposit.

The flyer can be downloaded as Adobe PDF file or JPEG Image.

Za moju Bosnu Kadiric BelmaMembers of the Australian Bosnian community in all major cities continue to raise funds to help flood victims of the worst natural disaster in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On Saturday night (24 May 2014) many members and friends of B&H gathered at the BHMZSA venue at Royal Park in Adelaide. While watching news reports and scenes from the devastated areas on a big screen, everyone was deeply affected and touched by the extent of the destruction all over the country.

Mr Almir Alispahic, the AUBHA’s spokesperson and president of the BHMZSA was pleased with the outcome: “The total proceeds are $17,000, which includes donations from the previous week. Considering the size of the Bosnia and Herzegovina community in Adelaide and South Australia, we are very happy with the collected amount. At the same time we would like to thank everyone involved for their generosity and support.

Muhamed Merdzanic briefly reported from Perth about and the efforts in Australian Bosnian-Herzegovinian Cultural and Recreational Centre. So far, over $8,000 has been collected and the major fundraising event is scheduled on 31 May.

DFAT response20may14-topIn the past week the Australian Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina Associations (AUBHA) contacted many members of the Federal Parliament, seeking Australia’s support to the flood affected areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Following the Opposition’s media release in which the Deputy Opposition leader Tanya Plibersek calls for action, a reply came from the cabinet of the Hon Julia Bishop, the Minister for Foreign Affairs.

Below is the letter from the DFAT to AUBHA’s spokesperson Mr Almir Alispahic.

On Friday night members of the Bosnia and Herzegovina community of Melbourne gathered at BH Centre Springvale and managed to raise $27,310.

Recent catastrophic floods in Bosnia and Herzegovina has caused immeasurable destruction and damage all over the country, with hundreds of thousands people directly affected. Numerous landslides destroyed complete villages and many mines, left from the 1990s war were dislodged. It’s been reported that more than 30 lives have been lost, with many more unaccounted for.

To Australian Bosnians this flood has caused considerable distress as our families and friends are directly affected by this catastrophe. Currently our focus is on sending money as it will quickly reach the flood affected areas and provide immediate relief.

The Australian Union of BH Associations has recently contacted some Federal Members of Parliament, appealing to the Australian Government to send humanitarian aid to the flood affected regions.

Today we received a reply from The Hon Alan Griffin MP, Member for Bruce in Victoria, who wrote: “Well done on working in such an important area. Although it is obviously a very tense and tragic time the work you are doing is important”.

Mr Griffin also included the first letter of support from the Deputy Leader of the Opposition, the Hon Tanya Plibersek MP, Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Development.
